Well here we go again yesterday I summarized our first day and then it disappeared!
So, our journey on air France was completely delightful and complete with a meal of beef borgenon, champaign and them breakfast too. On board movies, ear plugs and eye masks for sleeping made it as restful as possible.
After collecting our luggage we headed off to catch the underground rail to our hotel.
Getting through the terminal with our ticketa was a bit of a challenge as we headed through the wrong turnstyles amd when we turnes back to correct our mistake, we discovered our 9 euro (each) tickets were no longer valid. Lesson learned. Next lesson learned, most turnstyles don't even function properly and don't require a ticket. So with hehe help of a nice stranger we were able to squeeze through with luggage and bodies. The train was very crowded and as we squeezes in and got to our seats. But then things got even more crowded as more boarded. Finally we located ouPr transfer station. Jim and I squeezed our way off and as we waited on the platform to wait for jan and bill, to our horror, we saw the doors close with them still on.
I ran to the window and began pounding in the hopes that somehow the doors would reopen. No such luck. I made eye contact with Jan and watched her mouth the words "stay right there", just as I was mouthing "meet us at the hotel". Since we still had one transfer before making it to the hotel, we assumed they would exit at the next stop and reboard to return to our location. But, we still had to cross over to the opposite platfom to find them. Considering the crowds this seemed an impossible task. After dragging our luggage up a long stair case and then down another tho make our way to the opposite playform, we waited am agonizing 13 minutes feeling helpless and unsure of they would come back or head to the hotel. Suddenly a train pulled up and by some miracle there they were. They made it off. Apparently they were stuck too far from the door and no one would let them off. Once they got off at the next stop, a kind woman took pity on the
and walked them back to where they could get back. We were very lucky to be reunites so quickly
So, off we went to the next train and then to the hotel. Two lost and two found!
Once we settled in, we spent the rest of the evening at two different restaurants where we ate fromage, french bread and sipped wine. Then on to a second restaurant for the main course.
Day two was spent eating fine breakfast pastries and wandering for several hours at the Louvre where we were overwhelmed by the size and beauty of so much art. After a lovely French lunch of more wine, fromage and onion soup, we wandered by foot to the shopping district of Les champs Elysees, a very trendy and rich shopping district. Jan was especially enthralled by our visit to the Louis VItton store and Cartier.
